This issue of identity and how we identify ourselves has caused to much discords. We identify ourselves as Africans which is true according to the context we found ourselves in, and according to our flesh and all fleshly attributes. Thus, it makes western people look foreign to us and the root of racism sprout out. Different identities brings oppression, discrimination, and racism even some of the inferior or powerless may be the victims of being colonized. As now we still have the stigma or racial differences from our history, and it has cause identity crisis is affecting the now generation.
God also sent Christ into this world in order for Him to fix these identity crisis we are facing. Humanity are identifying themselves through what they do not who they are. We will never know what kind of personality you have unless you act, it might be hard to know who are you unless we hear your language or pronouncing words, it is hard to be content with who you are without talking and acting. David was rejected by his family, he didn't know who he was through fleshly perspective, and the hatred, abuse and oppression he received made him to look foreign which it affected his personality and conscience which is soul identity. All of these experiences made him to trust and believe in the Lord, which brought back his Spiritual identity, hence he said; "I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High." (Psa. 82:6).
Identity crisis was the problem of the church and religious group for a long time. Us being called the uncircumcised and gentiles it was a discrimination itself. God saw it fit to make us one thing, without a doubt we were living in this world without God and without hope, we were spiritually lost. We had an identity crisis. When Jesus Christ came He united everyone in God, without showing favoritism.Even though Israelite's can boast about their circumcision it was only to identify them in the flesh it wasn't a spiritual issue. In Christ there no difference "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus." (Gal 3:26). When Jesus died on the cross we were brought back to our true identity, which is for us to awake spiritually, and have our peaceful relationship with our Father God. Because we were once aliens but now we are alive in God through Christ.
