Jesus Christ committed no sin yet He was punished, He was set as a scapegoat to be punished for countless errors! A scapegoat is someone who is blamed for the problems of a given society without evidence to back up the claim. There was no evidence to back up all the accusations that we placed on Jesus Christ. It was because of our transgressions that He was sent away! He took our curses, our sins and iniquities while it should've been us on the death row. In the Mosaic laws of rituals two goats were set before the Lord and a lot were casted and on the goat which the lot fell, was sent to away from the presence of the Lord as a reject and outcast bearing all the sins of the nation. Just as Pilate who acted as a High priest that gave Barabbas as an alive and welcomed goat before God and Jesus Christ was sent away to the Cross to bear the shame of the whole world!
